LOUIS flew just over a mile of the Del Mar, CA coast to map erosion in collaboration with USGS and the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Scripps and USGS are monitoring coastal erosion in the area using ground based and aerial LIDAR.

Terrain models extracted from LOUIS imagery are being compared to LIDAR based terrain models to assess the utility of LOUIS as a portable, flexible alternative to traditional terrain mapping technologies.
